Paigah Tombs Andhra Pradesh

Paigah Tombs are also known by the name of Maqbara Shums Ul Umra and situated in the city of Hyderabad. These tombs belong to the nobility of the Paigah or the Shums Ul Umra family. These tombs are known for its rare and beautiful architecture. There are tombs of famous Paigah generation that includes Asman Jah, Viqar-Ul-Umara and Shams Ul Umara. You will see the wonderful intricate stone work in Paigah tombs. The walls of these tombs show the rich heritage and glittery lifestyle of the rulers. Paigah nobles were very close to the Nizams of Hyderabad and were given the responsibility of looking after the security and defense of the state.

Paigah tombs are discovered in late eighteenth century and its tombs are strewing over 30-40 acres. These tombs are a series of mausoleums built for Paigah family. History of Paigah Tombs
The beautiful tombs of Paigah were constructed in the year 1787 by Nawab Taig Jung Bahadur and later by his son Amir-e-Kabir I. During 1880, some more additions and modifications were made in these tombs by Sir Asman Jah, Sir Khurshid Jah and Sir Vikar Ul Umar. These tombs have a series of graveyards of the Paigah nobles which includes some of the famous persons like Abul Fatah Khan Shums ul Umra I to shums ul Umra V, Sir Asman Jah, Sir Khursheed Jah, Sir Vicar-ul-Umra, Sultan ul Mulk, Lady Vicar ul Umra, Lady Khurshid Jah, Lady Asman Jah, Moin ud Dowla, Zaheer yar Jung and other members of the Paigah Family. Taig Jung, the founder of this place was buried here in 1786 at the foyer of the complex. There is an iron plaque at the entrance of the complex traces the Paigah lineage and exalts the marble magnificence of the vault.

The structure of the tombs is magnificent, decorated in stucco work and represent several styles of architecture like Moghal, Greek, Persian, Asaf Jahi, Rajasthani and Deccani. These all tombs show a unique style of architecture with great craftsmanship. The Paigah Tombs are unique specimens of extraordinary artistry that is ardently visible in the wonderfully inlaid mosaic work.
